You can easily share items like cabinets, folder templates, naming options, etc. with other users on your network. You can also share separators, search indexes, and other settings, but they’re handled a little bit differently (see Begin Sharing below).
Sharing is a three-step process:
First you need to create a folder somewhere on your network to hold the shared settings. These settings are then available to all of your workstations. We recommend you name the folder Shared Settings. For example, if your network drive is N:, the folder will be called N:Shared Settings. See The Shared Settings Folder for more information.
The shared settings folder is ONLY for settings. It should be separate from your cabinets.
Now you can begin creating sharing items. You’ll do this through (Enterprise Organizer Pro Professional)’s Admin Tool. Do the following:
Now you’ll see a number of sections show up on the left: Cabinets, Folder Templates, etc. You’ll use these to create all of the items you want to share on the network.
Finally, you need to point the other computers in your office to the shared settings folder so they can access the shared items. To do this:
Repeat this on each of the workstations that needs to access the shared items. See Set Up the Other Machines for more information.
If you’re sharing a cabinet on the network, there are two important things to be aware of:
If the cabinet is on your own computer, you’ll need to move it onto the network before you can share it:
This will move all of the cabinet files to the new location on the network and update your cabinet settings.
The cabinet must be available from the same path on every computer. For example, suppose that your computer sees the cabinet at N:Shared CabinetsClients. Once you share the cabinet, all of the other computers will expect to find it at the same place. So it’s important that they all use the same drive letter for the network drive and the same path to the cabinet.
See Sharing Search Indexes and Sharing Separators for instructions. For other settings and advanced options, see Administer Shared Settings
