Device authentication

The program will read the Session object of the scan device to obtain the authenticated user information when Device Authentication is enabled. The obtained user information will then be used to log on to the InterActive Client. Because the program knows what user is logged on, user metadata like the home folder and/or email address can be utilized for file storage purposes.

The following authentication methods are supported in combination with the InterActive Client:

    • Network Authentication: the following network authentication types are supported: LDAP, SMB and Kerberos (Windows).
    • Xerox Secure Access: this is a security option for the Xerox device and enables users to log in with a swipe of their magnetic or proximity ID card. NOTE: the password of the authenticated user is not stored in the session object when magnetic card or PIN authentication is used. Select the Validate password option if the password is needed for file storage purposes, within for example the Winshare or SharePoint store modules. The Validate password option will validate if the correct password is stored in the session object, if not it will challenge the user for the password.
    • SafeCom: this is a security option for the scan device and enables users to log in with a swipe of their magnetic or proximity ID card. NOTE: the password of the authenticated user is not stored in the session object when magnetic card or PIN authentication is used. Select the Validate password option if the password is needed for file storage purposes, within for example the Winshare out or SharePoint store modules. The Validate password option will validate if the correct password is stored in the session object, if not it will challenge the user for the password.

The following steps have to be performed to enable device authentication:

  1. Enable Network Authentication or Xerox Secure Access on the scan device. Please consult device documentation or visit www.xerox.com for more information and/or instructions on how to enable Xerox Secure Access or Network Authentication for the Xerox device.
  2. In Advanced File Pack specify the LDAP server.
  3. Select Device Authentication for the scan device.
  4. Optionally: if you want to use personalized scan templates you will have to import users or groups from the LDAP server and assign triggers to them. Click Users or Groups for more information about users and groups. Click here for more information about assigning templates to users and/or groups.
