Filtering Files

You can limit the Files display to specific file types by applying Filters. A filter makes it so only the kinds of files you want to see will be displayed; the rest of the files are hidden. For example, suppose that you only want to see Word documents. A filter will hide everything but Word documents. You can set up a filter for any file type. You can also filter for multiple file types.

The Filter Button

Use the Filter button to control filtering:

Click the button and choose Select Filters. Or go to the Files task button > Filters > Select Filters.

Set Up a Filter

The File Filter dialog shows two columns, one for file types you can filter on (Available Filters), and one for the file types that will be displayed (Active Filters). Allow a file type to show by either double-clicking it or selecting it and clicking the right arrow icon. This adds the file type to the Active Filters list. Whenever filtering is turned on, the file types in Active Filterswill display.

You can customize the Available Filters list. See File Management Settings.

Clear a Filter

Clear a filter by removing the file type from the Active Filters list. You can do this by either double-clicking the file type or by selecting it and clicking the left arrow icon. You can clear all of the active filters at once withe the Clearlink.

Toggle Filtering On/Off

You can turn filtering on/off without clearing your active filters. On the File Filterdialog there’s a checkbox for turning off filtering. This will deactivate filtering, but it will leave your current filters selected. This makes it easy to toggle filtering without losing your preferred filter.

Quick Actions

The drop-arrow button next to the Filter button has quick actions for turning the filter on/off and for selecting file filters.
