Advanced Cabinets

An advanced cabinet is for users who have important folders spread all over their computer. With an advanced cabinet, every drawer has its own location assignment. This makes it possible to bring scattered locations together and display them as drawers in a single, unified cabinet. This is different than a standard cabinet, where every drawer must exist under the cabinet’s directory in Windows.

To compare the different cabinet types, see Cabinet Types.

Create and Manage an Advanced Cabinet

Create an advanced cabinet the same way you would a regular cabinet: Cabinets button > Add. After you set up the basic options, you’ll be taken to a screen where you can begin creating drawers for the cabinet. See Add A Cabinet for more information about setting up a new cabinet.

The Cabinet Drawers

The real power of an advanced cabinet is in being able to bring together many different locations into a single, unified cabinet for easy access. Each location will appear as a drawer in the advanced cabinet, even though they may be spread all across your computer.

When you first create your advanced cabinet, you will see the drawer manager. Use the drawer manager to create your initial drawers and assign locations to them. See Manage Outlook Drawers for more information.

As you use the cabinet, you can add new drawers just like you normally would, with the Drawers task button > New Drawer.

The new drawer options are a little bit different in an advanced cabinet. See Drawer Basics for more information.

"Pinning" Drawers

One very useful feature of advanced cabinets is the ability to "pin" drawers to them. Pinning is simply a way to stick a drawer from a regular cabinet to an advanced cabinet. The drawer still resides in the regular cabinet, but it will now show in the advanced cabinet too. This is a great way to gather together just the few drawers you’re actively working in for the day. See Pinning Drawers for more information.

Cabinet Settings

You can edit an advanced cabinet just like any other cabinet. From the Cabinets button, select the cabinet and click Edit.

Limitations

Advanced cabinets do have some limitations. For example, you can’t share an advanced cabinet’s layout with other users. See Cabinet Types for a full comparison with other cabinet types.
